Winter Trails Day (Anchorage)

When: Saturday, Jan. 28, 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
Where: BLM Campbell Creek Science Center, 5600 Science Center Dr.
What: Family-oriented event includes cross-country skiing, fat-tire biking, geocaching, snowshoeing and many informational booths for local outdoor-oriented organizations.
How much: Free! Demo equipment is provided.

What for: To promote safe, non-motorized winter recreational activity on public lands.



Huffman Winter Sports Day (Anchorage)

When: Saturday, Feb. 4, 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. 
Where: Huffman Elementary School, 12000 Lorraine St.
How much: Student $5; Family $20.
Activities: Scavenger hunt-style event includes skiing, skating, snowshoeing, sledding and more.

The Stud Run (Anchorage)

When: Saturday, Feb. 11, 10 a.m.
Where: Sand Lake Elementary School, 7500 Jewel Lake Rd.
Course: 1.75-mile lap around frozen Sand Lake (walk or run)
How much: (Untimed) Adult, $25; Student, $10; Family of 5, $60 (rates increase $5 on Feb. 1)

North Area Winter Jamboree (Chugiak)

When: Friday March 3, 4-6:30 p.m.
Where: Chugiak High School
Activities: Carnival-style event includes cross country skiing, sledding and snowshoeing. Equipment will be provided but students are encouraged to bring their own gear if possible. Hot cocoa and snacks will be provided.
How much: Free
For whom: Elementary school students (an adult must stay on site with children through the event)

Ski 4 Kids (Anchorage)

Where: Kincaid Park, Anchorage
How much: No set fee; recommended donation is $20
Ski events: 3K timed and untimed events, plus a 1K storybook trail, 1:30 p.m. at Kincaid Stadium

Activities: Activity stations include speedskating, snowshoeing, orienteering treasure hunt, obstacle course, ski jumping, ski skiing, Challenge Alaska and fat tire biking.

Distances: 5K, 10K and 50-yard Dash for Cash and Kiddies 1K (no charge)
Course: 10K goes up to Independence Mine and Gold Cord Lake and back. Includes untracked powder sections.
